Fundraising Dinner and Auction

With the home study process almost complete, we are gearing up for a fundraising blitz.  So far, with our savings and the funds that we've already raised, we're close to clearing the $18,000 mark.  Halfway there!  The next part of the process (networking and birthmother management) will equate to about $18,000.  That being said, it's time to fundraise people!

We are so excited about this event and just being able to get everyone together to share our journey!

Details are still being finalized, but if you know me, then you know that I love to eat, so you know that the first thing planned was most definitely the menu.  Here it is!  (subject to change...but hopefully not!)

What Kind of Parent Are You?

As I sit here contemplating this question and watching the Eagles/Redskins game, it dawns on me.  As a parent, with young, impressionable minds around, are you still allowed to yell and scream at the  (insert your team's name here) on the TV while they do really awesomely or really un-awesomely?  Or would this be one of the situations where Mom and Dad put the kids to bed early and enjoy the game while they sleep?  OR do you sit the kids down and teach them the intricacies of how and when to yell and cheer at the optimum time?

Oh man....what do you do??

What kind of parent are you?

We recently handed in our home study application and autobiographies.  A few of the questions within the application really made us do our research and we had to take a serious look at how we would answer this question.  The topics: our theory on parenting and our philosophy on punishment.  Now, we both have experience working with children and parents in a variety of settings and at a variety of ages.  We've also both been blessed with strong parenting examples within our own families.  We have an idea of what "to do" and what "not to do".  But we felt that we needed some research-driven (there goes my teacher brain) information to help us answer this question.  Below are some of the internet sites we used to help us form our answer and describe the type of parents that we ascribe to be as well as they types of discipline that we would be comfortable using within our own home.

Prayer Requests:
  1. Pray that all of the supporting documentation arrives in a timely manner so we can schedule our home study interview.
  2. Pray that our fundraising dinner and auction will be a success and will act as an educational event to spread the word about adoption and its importance.
