Wesley's Story

Wesley Aaron was born on Thursday, January 23, 2014 at 8:29am.  He weighed 7lb 14oz and was 20in long.  Below is his story.  There are many more details not contained in this letter and some names have been left out for privacy, but we LOVE to tell his story and our adoption journey up until this point, so please ask.  The complete adoption is not finalized yet.  More updates to come later this week.

Dear Wesley,

Someday I hope to tell you this story in its entirety.  The story of your birth.  You are truly a miracle child from God.  Your Daddy, myself, your grandparents, and many other people have been praying and waiting for you for a long time.  You, my dear, were hand-picked by God to be part of our family.  We love you to the moon and back!  Here is the story of the day you were born.

The first, and most important detail, of this story is that God loves you.  He helped H and C with the decision to bring you into this world and then let you go.  He knows, baby boy, that you are something special and He planned and carried out all of the events right at the beginning of your life knowing full well that you are important and a child of His kingdom.
The second, and just as important detail, of this story is that your birth parents, H and C, love you very much.  They wanted you baby, so, so much!  But were unable to give you the life they knew you deserved.  They wanted you to be loved, to be cared for, to have what you needed to have to be happy and healthy.

You were born on Thursday, January 23, 2014 at 8:29 in the morning.  You, my dear boy, were the most precious new born I’ve ever laid eyes on.  Your dad and I received a phone call from Grandma on Friday night (the 24th) asking us if we would be interested in talking with one of her friends, M.  M knew H from a food pantry that she volunteered at.  H would bring your sister and brother to the food pantry.  M talked with H about her pregnancy and gave her phone number to H.  That Friday night, M  called a few other families before she called Grandma after she heard from H about your birth.  No one else answered their phones.  That’s just another awesome detail that God was involved with.  We spoke with M and told her we would be interested in adopting you from H and C.  We called the adoption agency that we were working with, A Baby Step, and spoke with our case manager and a birth mom case manager.  That Friday night, little one, was scary, nerve wracking, and anxiety filled.  I did not get a wink of sleep!

On Saturday morning, Kayla, H’s case manager for the adoption, met her at the hospital.  She spoke with her about adoption, answered her questions, and helped her to make a plan.  M had already told H about Daddy and I, so Kayla showed them our profile.  Oh sweetie, you wouldn’t believe all of the things we have in common.  H and I both love to bake and spend time with our friends.  C and Daddy are both car lovers and mechanics.  We both have dogs and love to watch movies.  When H and C saw our profile, they loved us, our lives, our families.  They knew that you would be well-loved.  Kayla then gave us a call and asked how quickly we could be at the hospital.  You better believe, kiddo, that we dropped everything and got there as fast as we could!  It was snowing, so we couldn’t drive too fast and on our way Kayla called again and asked if we could pick up some chocolate donuts for H.  Yet another thing her and Mommy have in common, we both LOVE chocolate.  Daddy and I stopped at Dunkin Donuts and picked out one of every donut that had chocolate on it or in it!

We got to the hospital and got to meet H and C and their friend Z.  They were all super nice!  We talked with them and got to see pictures of your brother and sister.  Kayla also helped us make an adoption plan with them and we talked about you, honey.  We learned about H’s pregnancy and delivery.  We learned about your first few days of life.  They took care of you, handsome boy, until we could get there to make you a part of our forever family.

H and C left the hospital Saturday evening.  I have no doubt that it was the hardest decision that either of them ever had to make.  They love you, son, but knew that their decision was best for you and for them.  Their decision gave Daddy and I a chance to smother you with love and make you a part of our family.

We spent the night with you in the hospital.  The nurses were fantastic and gave us everything we needed.  We weren’t prepared to stay the night so we slept in our clothes and charged our phones in the car.  On Sunday morning, we received a crash course on how to take care of you.  They showed us how to bathe you, how to change your diaper, feed and burp you.  They showed us how to install the car seat and made sure you were healthy as a horse before we left.  Grandpa and Grandma met us at the hospital and helped us take you home.  Gammy, Poppy, and Uncle O were waiting at the house for us when we got there.  It was a whirlwind weekend, little man.  On Friday night Daddy and I sat down to watch a movie and eat dinner and on Sunday afternoon, we brought you home.
While we were at the hospital, Grandpa and Grandma and a few of our friends scrambled to gather the things we would need to make sure you were clothed, safe, and had a place to sleep.  We hadn't started working on your nursery yet, honey, so you spent your first few weeks living in our office.  Your clothes were stored in a bookshelf and your changing table was a filing cabinet.  Daddy and I are so thankful for the friends and family that loaned us things as we prepared for your homecoming.

There were so many people praying for you, waiting for you, knowing that somewhere, at some point God would hand-pick you just for us.  We love you Wesley Aaron.  Always and Forever.

                                                                        Love,

                                                                        Mommy and Daddy
